Homesick
Synopsis : Directed by Stanford Ph.D. graduate Shu SHANG, this experimental short film delves into the psyche of an AI robot in the future. She faces challenges familiar to us today: grappling with birth control like many women, yearning for her hometown like immigrants, and enduring exploitation like the working class. The film features a unique visual style with AI-created dialogues and sounds.
As a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, SHANG's films tell stories of unexpected connection across geology and species. She adopts a post-humanistic perspective to creatively reinvent history of science and technology. Her short films "Goddess Trivial and Cute" and "Homebound" are made in 2022 and 2023, after she graduated from Stanford University and committed her career as a professional film director and writer. Yu was born in Beijing, China from a nomad Mongolian immigrants family and is now based in Los Angeles and Beijing.
