Half a poem
Synopsis : Ziqian, a Chinese-Korean student living in South Korea, faces a poetry assignment in her Chinese class. Because Mother's Day is coming, her teacher, Miss Wen, promises a red flower sticker for each good poem submitted, and ten stickers can exchange a gift for their mothers. Ziqian and her friend Manman are eager to get gifts, but Ziqian struggles with the task, unsure of what poetry truly is. Desperate for inspiration, Ziqian stumbles upon her mother’s poetry collection and begins copying her mother’s poems to submit as her own. To her surprise, her work is praised, and she continues using her mother’s poems. However, an accident in the park leaves her notebook and her mother’s poetry book behind. Believing Miss Wen has discovered her secret, Ziqian confesses. In a heartfelt conversation, Miss Wen encourages Ziqian to write her own poems as a meaningful gift for her mom. Taking the advice to heart, Ziqian starts noticing the beauty in everyday life and crafts her own poems. On Mother’s Day, she presents a poem to her mom and invites her to the school poetry event. Her mom chooses an unfinished poem and explains that life is about experiencing and completing one’s own story. Through this journey, Ziqian discovers that poetry exists everywhere—in the lives of busy homemakers, elderly restaurant workers, store clerks, and students. Despite their daily struggles, they find authenticity in poetry, brightening the gray urban world like colorful graffiti.
I am a college student who has just turned 21 years old. With passionate dreams and infinite enthusiasm, I have always been committed to capturing the beauty and emotions in life through the lens. And this time, I focused my gaze on children full of childlike innocence, presenting a movie related to poetry to everyone. This movie is my graduation project. During my college years, I served as a director and shot many short films, most of which were short films of less than six minutes. I have never tried to achieve a size of more than ten minutes, and my theme choices often lean towards the preferences of my teachers. I have never really tried to shoot my favorite topics, nor have I truly explored what I want to express in my heart. But fortunately, I met seven girls and we formed a team with one of the most feminine traits - softness, I believe that everyone's heart will always hold a childlike innocence, but through the test of time, we gradually hide it. And this movie aims to awaken the child deep in everyone's hearts, allowing us to rediscover our love for life and longing for beauty. This film not only makes us feel a warmth from the story itself, but also from the entire filming process. I hope to convey it and let more people find warmth and strength in it. Speaking of my fate with poetry, in fact, during my childhood, I didn't really enjoy poetry that much. China is a country with an ancient history and culture. When we were young, our teachers asked us to memorize poetry, which I found very difficult and even resisted in my heart. But as I grew older and gained more experience, I gradually realized that there are many truths hidden in poetry. Those words and phrases that were once obscure and difficult to understand suddenly become clear and profound after experiencing the ups and downs of life. Only when one grows up can they understand the meaning of poetry. I hope to present memories to the public through imagery and evoke some mischievous, childish, yet thought-provoking empathy about childhood.
We are a childlike and lovely feature film, the main characters of the film are children, and our story revolves around poetry. We believe that there are many people in all walks of life who love to write poetry. They are still working hard for a living, while also retaining their true selves in poetry. We hope that the audience can find a miniature of themselves in the children, and also find the innocent side of their hearts that has never disappeared, and have a love and longing for life.
