Max Train began writing short stories in Tokyo in 2003. Publishing his Japan based fiction to a blog, he attracted a humble readership which led him to study script writing under the mentorship of David Flaherty of SCTV in Toronto. His studies opened up a genuine interest in filmic language and was encouraged by RoboCop co-creator Michael Miner to pursue the craft. While Max’s experimental shorts played in festivals throughout Europe, he also sought experience in the industry by working as a script editor on various documentaries in Paris. Max gathered 10k to attempt a low budget feature, which turned into “James”. James is a type of thesis in Max’s career and a sincere love letter to Vancouver, cinema and all the beloved people he has had the pleasure of working with since embarking on this journey. Excited to explore what he has learned from his debut, Max is currently preparing to begin pre-production on his next feature. He resides in Paris with his partner and newborn daughter.
